Distractions, distractions…

Monday, August 21st, 2006

We now have internet and I have no excuse for not blogging, and besides I enjoy blogging, and besides I am meant to be washing up and ironing at this precise moment so what could be a better distraction. France was wonderful, as was meeting lots more people at SPICE events (aka other Ridley students). Mullet got me to preach yesterday which was really lovely (have decided against posting my sermon up here for two reasons, a) it seems a bit ladyda look at me and b) no one ever tells me what’s wrong with them!) and I think he might even allow me to do it again, so it can’t have been that bad. I quoted George Herbert and he seemed quite happy with that.

Have also started using Skype, which means we can talk to Stephen and my sister in law Cecily for 2p a minute, despite being in Taiwan and Greece respectively. And I can use my pda as a phone, which is quite strange.

I will tell you all about Mullet soon. John St Hilary Mullet I should say. Jane Austen would have had a field day with this character.

Now must go and make the house hospitible for my Aunty who is coming tomorrow :) and Amy’s parents who are here from Friday. Hope all are well, I have been reading your blogs when I have had the chance (like while sitting in Pau airport with free wifi for 3 hours waiting for very delayed plane!)

Moved In!

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

We are now officially moved in, and half unpacked. We moved in last Thursday and had our first guest on Friday – our friend Stephen Clarke who got married in May (if you remember). It was only he and not mrs Clarke but we are assured we will meet her in a year and a half during Christmas 07. They are doing TEFLy things in Taiwan as well as running a Church. It was wonderful to see how two years apart made almost no difference to how well we knew one another and got on with one another. He is possibly our best friend and we miss him terribly (he left for Taiwan again this morning).

He was over not just to see us but also to go to Rachael and Alex’s Wedding! Will blog more about them as we get to know them better, when they have returned from honeymoon. It was a great wedding with much rejoicing. Have never seen two people more in love on their wedding day. And they also have a tandem and live in Cambridge, so more about that later too.

Our Cottage is wonderful, and we are very jealous of ourselves. It is surprisingly spacious and we have a lot more room than we imagined. The garden is just about under control now, and we now have a place for most things and most things in their place. Internet is still not happening, and is set to turn on just after we set off for France. FYI we are in France from the 8th to the 16th August, unless you are a nasty burglar in which case we are not going on holiday at all, and are currently training three bloodthirsty rotweilers in the art of Rosebud. We have housesitters for most of this time anyway so we should be ok.

T&E please note this date – we are worried about your wedding ring. Please let me know how you would like it back!

We are pretty rubbish at inviting people to come and stay so if you would like to visit or use us as a convenient place to stay in Cambridge please let us know – we don’t consider that rude at all – in fact it organises us. Max stay 2 weeks, unless you are a relation in which case 1 week…

In other news I need to buy a cassock – anyone have any idea how to get one for under £260. I don’t think I get an allowance for such things yet but I apparently need one, not least because Mullitt (the retired clergyman in the village) wants me to preach at his Church! Mullitt is wonderful, and requires a whole blog post just to himself, which will come later.

Until next time.
